Drawing, Printmaking, and Making Peace

Art Practice Outside The Studio

Workhorse is a multidisciplinary studio we all have our own interests outside of design. I’ve been keeping up with his practice in printmaking outside of the office place working at institutions like Current Space, John Hopkins Islamic Society, and Pyramid Atlantic.
Drawing should be meditative and not draining it doesn’t always have to amount to a new art piece.

My tip for an active art practice that keeps motivation high and lowers burnout is to draw frequently. Drawing should be meditative and not draining it doesn’t always have to amount to a new art piece. Don’t gauge your drawing sessions on success or productivity just have fun.

Tips for a healthy practice:

  • Write down random associations to sketch later.
  • Consistency is hard but it is key to think out your idea you don’t even understand yet.
  • Facetime your partners to share your half-formed ideas.
  • Let yourself make bullshit.
  • Most importantly a drawing can just be a drawing. It doesn’t need to become a painting, animation, print, or shirt.
  • Make connections and look back at past drawings.
Recently I have been sitting with my drawings and noticing a lot of connections between my drawings, emotions, and themes. Most of the time I post up all my work on the walls like a mad man to find these connections in my works. This time I thought why not let these rough “draft” drawings become a finalized piece. Here are some recent drawings and the prints I have pulled from them.
